Scope
This policy covers the Japan Undercover website, the Japan Undercover Facebook Page, and Independent Publications Ops when it is used to prepare, publish, verify, or measure content on explicitly registered publication Pages.
Independent Publications Ops is an internal publishing tool. It does not currently offer a public consumer login or ask readers to connect a Facebook account.
Information handled
Website activity
- The Japan knowledge test stores scores only in your browser's local storage. No account is required, and those scores are not sent to Japan Undercover.
- If you join the email list, Japan Undercover stores your email address, your consent choice, the page you signed up from, the time, your IP address and the rough location derived from it. It is used only to send Japan Undercover email updates; it is never sold or shared. To unsubscribe, email contact@japanundercover.com.
- The hosting provider may process standard technical logs such as IP address, browser type, requested page, and timestamp for delivery, reliability, and security.
- Japan Undercover keeps its own visit log: the page requested, the referring site's hostname, your IP address and the rough location derived from it, your browser's user-agent string, and the time. It is used to see which pages and posts people actually read. No cookies are set for this; you can opt out from the notice shown on your first visit, and the choice is remembered in your browser.
Publication operations
When authorized operators use Independent Publications Ops, the tool may process Page names and IDs; post or Reel text; media and source URLs; publication rights records; scheduled and published timestamps; platform-generated post, media, and Reel IDs; delivery status; aggregate Page and content insights; and operational audit receipts.
Comments or commenter information are accessed only when an authorized operator specifically requests comment review or response work. The comment tools do not independently retain or alter commenter data.
How information is used
Information is used only to operate the publication: prepare and publish authorized content, prevent duplicate or unintended posts, confirm delivery, investigate failures, measure aggregate performance, respond to requested Page interactions, secure the service, and maintain accountable operational records.
Retention and security
Content records and publication receipts are kept only as long as reasonably needed for editorial accountability, duplicate prevention, incident review, security, and legal obligations. Aggregate insights may be retained for historical comparison. Subscription information, if email capture is activated, is retained until you unsubscribe or request deletion, subject to limited suppression and compliance records.
Facebook access credentials are stored in protected local credential storage and are not displayed in operational output. Access is restricted to authorized operators. No transmission or storage system is perfectly secure, but the tool is designed to minimize access and fail closed when its publishing state cannot be trusted.
Your choices
- Clear this site's local storage in your browser to erase locally saved quiz scores.
- Use the unsubscribe method in any Japan Undercover email, if email delivery is activated.
- Remove a connected Meta integration through Facebook's settings when applicable.
- Request access to or deletion of information reasonably linked to you by following the data deletion instructions.
This service is intended for a general audience and is not directed to children under 13.
Changes and contact
This policy may change when the website, publishing tool, or legal requirements change. The effective date above will be updated when a revision is published.
